RICS has been monitoring energy consumption and measuring its carbon footprint since 2007, taking into consideration all direct and most relevant indirect emissions such as waste, water use and business travel for its three major UK offices.
Total emissions have risen from 1,713 tonnes of CO2 in 2009/10 to 1,968 in 2010/11, attributed to maximum staff occupancy and an expansion of commercial operations at RICS headquarters following two years of reduced usage during refurbishment, and increased staff travel.
